Manifesto

There are a seemingly endless number of websites, blogs, and, for that matter, newsletters and magazines devoted to wine.  Out of all of them, however, none primarily focus on the selling of wine at auction.

Certainly, Wine Spectator has extensive information on auctions on its Collecting page and Liv-ex mentions big sales now and again, but there is no single source online that offers in-depth analysis of wine auctions on a consistent basis.  This is especially true for those of us who come to auctions searching for bargains to drink rather than for First Growth Bordeaux to trade like so many pork bellies, as Tim Atkin MW puts it.

That’s where Wine Auction Spy comes in to fill the gap.

What I’m aiming to do with this site is to provide timely previews of upcoming wine auctions (both in the bricks-and-mortar world and online), reviews of what happened after wine auctions, wine auction bidding strategies and techniques, and easily accessible information about the various entities that conduct wine auctions.  While I’ll touch on investing through auctions, the prime focus will be on finding great wine at auction to drink at a great price.

I need your help as this site grows and develops, so please drop me a line at josh [at] wineauctionspy.com and let me know what I can do to make this place better and more useful to you.
